On Monday we went over the interactive power point in class. Students are allowed to work in groups of 2-3, and they have to focus on aspect from their novel. They have to have a minimum of 10 slides within their power point.

On Monday we began work on imagery. We watched the Youtube clip of "The Highwayman." Afterwards we reviewed poetry terms and students had a worksheet to do on "The Highwayman," which is due on Friday. Students then worked on an image from "The Highwayman" for their poetry book. So for the poetry book includes their Found Poem, their Haiku, and now their Image.

On Tuesday we went over different elements that are present in newspapers. Groups then looked at different newspapers and pulled out the elements. Students then had the last 10 minutes to get in to their groups and begin working on an outline for their newspapers.
On Wednesday students had 20 minutes in their groups to complete their outlines and then they did a carousel feedback survey. When finished, we then went to the lab to begin work on writing the newspapers.

Students are allowed to work in partners or on their own. Students will have a quiz on short story elements on Thursday Sept. 26th.

week of september 9-13
On Monday we began with work on proofreading. We looked at works that sound the same but are spelt differently. We also looked at what periods, commas, colons, semi-colons, and apostrophes do. We then proceeded to proofread a couple of paragraphs and look for errors.
On Tuesday, I handed back the students past tense paragraphs and we then re-wrote them with corrections and had students proofread them. This is practice for the portfolio, and this assignment will count as the grammar mark for this week.
On Wednesday students participated in a reading comprehension and vocabulary test, that was grade wide.
On Thursday we went over the 4 main types of paragraphs and were given a handout. The we went over short story elements and took notes and then read the short story "The Wish." We took notes on this story as well.

Welcome back to another school year! This week we went over the course outline and the portfolio that we will be completing in English 8. We did some exercises on descriptive writing and on verbs in the past tense. We then proceeded to write a paragraph in the past tense that we will be using next week.
